Lerena’s A Roaming Spirit Today

First due off @ 12h00

Nine races are carded at Turffontein this afternoon, with two feature races on the programme – the 4Racing Listed Spook Express Stakes and the 4Racing Listed Dr Richard Maponya Handicap.

The first is due off at 12h00 with the lucky last set for 16h45.

Gavin Lerena takes the ride on Roaming Spirit in Race 3 (Pic – Chase Liebenberg)

Roaming Spirit from the Mike de Kock stable takes her place in Race 3 and she is the best bet on the programme.

She is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last outing has come out and won since.

The way she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m.

Gavin Lerena rides from a good draw of four and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Trainer Bridget Stidolph sends out Samoa in the lucky last race. She is better than her last start over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course.

The 10yo mare gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Girish Dookhit which will assist her cause.

She is having her 100th career outing and on best form shown, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

Race: 4 No: 2 STAR COIN had a 364 day break due to being rested and to rehabilitate his joints.
