Lerena To The Fore Today

Jackpot 1 starts in the fourth race at 14h40

Eight races are set for the Vaal Classic course this afternoon.

Gavin Lerena has four rides this afternoon and may be the jockey worth following.

The first race is due off at 12h55.

Jimmy The Rich writes that after saddling a winner on Tuesday, Mike de Kock saddles Run As One in the opening event on the card.

He showed very good improvement when finishing second over 1400m at Turffontein last time. He stayed on nicely at the finish that day, but found one too good in the form of Forged By Fire.

It must be noted that the horse that finished third has come out and won since. The son of Gimmethegreenlight will love the extra distance on offer and can go one better.

Masango Machine from the Clinton Binda stable represents decent each way value in Race 6. He produced a typical second run after a rest in his last start over 1200m on the polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

He finished 2.2 lengths behind Seemyvision in his penultimate effort.

He is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He should be cherry-ripe and can cause the upset.

Masango Machine will run with alumites on the front and remain unshod behind.

Lyle Hewitson will not be riding today with the stipes permission.

The false rail is 5m on the back straight and 8.5m on the bend with a 7m spur at the 600m mark.

  • The Bipot starts in the first at 12h55
  • The Place Accumulator starts in the second at 13h30
  • The Pick 6 starts in the third at 14h05
  • Jackpot 1 starts in the fourth race at 14h40
  • Jackpot 2 starts in the fifth race at 15h15

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
