Handicappers were right

Embarrassed SmileyWhen the handicappers lifted Legal Eagle’s merit rating to 120 after his victory in what seems to be an “okay” Jubilee Handicap field last June most people – including myself – thought they had flipped. After the horse’s defeat to Killua Castle in December even the jockey questioned the rating, writes Phumelela Publishing’s Jack Milner.

However, following his impressive victory in Saturday’s R1-million L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate one has no option but to stand back, applaud and say: “Well done, fellas, you were right!”

Betting was suspended for the J&B Met after that race but those who are sitting with the 11-2 available before the race must be salivating with excitement because this son of Greys Inn could well start odds-on for the R2.5-million race over 2000m on Saturday 30 January.

Gathered in the Queens’ Plate were the best in the land and they were all sharply put in their places by Legal Eagle.
