The Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale is being held on Friday 20 November

A Silvano filly from a half-sister to Val de Ra and Tevez is included in the draft consigned by Sorrento Stud at the CTS Ready To Run Sale at Durbanville in Friday.

Unlucky. Champion Val De Ra pipped by What A Winter.

Lot 60 is related to champion Val De Ra

She’s Lot 60 and not yet named, and Sorrento’s Terry Andrews expects that she will enjoy plenty of attention among buyers. Andrews said: “This is a very smart filly from Mitra, herself a mare with bold black type.”

Andrews likes what he has seen so far from Gimmethegreenlight (AUS) and expects that Drop The Pilot (Lot 147), will do him justice when she gets to the racecourse. She’s the first foal of the VAR-mare, Armatrading, a half-sister to the internationally well-performed Nocturnal Affair, a Grade 3 winner in South Africa, a winner in the UK and Dubai and Listed-placed in Dubai.

Andrews said: “Drop The Pilot is very smart and she has a beautiful action.”

No Green Stars (Lot 8, Gimmethegreenlight x Flymetothestars), is a “very nice type” from a half-sister to Badger’s Drift.

Royal Air Force

Sorrento has two lots Lots 109 and 128, by Royal Air Force

Sorrento has two colts by Royal Air Force (Lots 109 and 128) on the sale and Andrews said: “One can’t expect them to attract the same bids as our Silvano colt, but they’re smart, they’re worth a look.  Air Cadet (Lot 128) is a half-brother to Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes entry Dragon Flame.”

Among Sorrento’s Lots to be sold on behalf of Peter De Beyer, Andrews spoke highly of Lot 9, She’s Foxy, a daughter of DuPont. She’s a full-sister to Gr2 Gauteng Guineas-placed Forest Fox, from the family of Futura and Angelina. “My son Anthony took She’s Foxy out for a canter and she gave him a really nice feel, he was very impressed with her action.”

Elusive Fort’s daughter Ginger Rose (Lot 122), is not the most robust of fillies, but Andrews said she was beautiful with an action of note, a potential value buy.

Lots 155 and 38 have been withdrawn from Sorrento Stud’s draft.

Dr Ian Heyns will be offering a VAR filly (Lot 29) and an Elusive Fort filly (Lot 136), both having passed unsold at sales earlier this year.

Var

Var – sire of Ian Heyns’ Lot 29

Arctic Swift, the daughter of VAR, is from an unraced full-sister to Izora from the family of Icy Air while Elusive Illusion, the Elusive Fort progeny comes from the potent family of Duchess Daba, Chief Editor and Phantom News.

Heyns commented: “They are two very nice specimens who didn’t fetch the prices they deserved earlier this year so I kept them. They’ve been working well in pre-training with Piet Steyn and I’m hoping they will realise their sales potential this time.”

Reinhard Hass of Reinels Stud said that his two offerings, Hernando’s Promise (Lot 87 – Gitano Hernando) and Fire In The Belly (Lot 113 – Tiger Dance) were so beautiful he’d love to race them himself, but he will be giving buyers a bite at what could be a pair of value purchases. “They move well, they have good actions and that is most important,” he told.

At Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, David Hepburn-Brown speaks highly of Lot 174, Designer Pot, a colt  by Judpot from the six-time winner Cruise Collection (Model Man), with the likes of Captain America, Pirate’s Gold and Jaroslaw notable in his damline.

Captain America

Top class Gr1 winner Captain America is in the damline of Lot 174

Greg Ennion, who has pre-trained this one at Milnerton, commented: “Designer Pot is a nice-sized and scopy horse with a good temperament and he moves well. He could go places.”

Hepburn-Brown said that his Philanthropist colt (Lot 177) was a well-balanced type who will probably take a bit of time but holds plenty of promise as his dam, Demanding Damsel (US) has already proven herself to be a producer of quality winners including Gr2 ace Demanding Lady and A Quiet Rush.

Typical! Demanding Lady (orange and black silks) gets up to win the Gr2 Ipi Tombe Challenge under Chase Maujean

Demanding Lady is related to Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud’s Lot 177

Maine Chance will have a single representative, Tour Of Duty (Lot 127), a Western Winter colt from Tala (by Silvano’s sire Lomitas) who didn’t fetch his reserve at the CTS Emperors Yearling Sale in April. John Slade of Maine Chance commented: “Tour Of Duty was immature in April and was overlooked by buyers. But he has furnished since and he’s very nice, he has grown into a magnificent horse. He has the conformation of a miler, he’s a strong colt.”
