Mayfair Speculators Are Top Buyers

Bernardini filly is sales topper at R1,5 million

A quality catalogue with plenty of depth and variety ensured that there was some spirited bidding at the fourth CTS Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale held at Durbanville on Friday. The highest price of the day was the R1,5 million paid by Mayfair Speculators for a magnificent Bernardini filly.

The sale topper – lot 100, a daughter of Bernardini

With the Ready To Run concept now a sought after and popular route for many owners and trainers, and on the eve of the R2,5 million Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday, there was plenty of interest from a wide spectrum of the racing community – and, as always, Cape Thoroughbred Sales added the touches with a slickly hosted show.

170 of the 192 lots catalogued were sold, realising an aggregate of R38 930 000.

The average was R229 000, with a median of R140 000.

The R1,5 million paid for the beautiful Bernardini filly lot 100, looks spot on.

Well presented by Julia Pibeam of Soetendal, Pilbeam , the daughter of a Nureyev-mare from an impressive US family that has produced six individual winners from seven previous foals, she has that winning look. An elated Julia said; “I’m excited about her, she has a lovely action.”

Kerry Jack Bloodstock paid R1,4 million for the highest priced colt from a family that has captured the Ready To Run imagination.

That was Lot 65 is Bishop’s Bounty, a son of Western Winter from Nacarat. He’s a full-brother to both Brutal Force and Red Ray, who were runners-up in the past two runnings of the RTR race. He was considered by a few in the know to be the potential sales-topper, and he only fell just short.
