Jet Master Sire Son’s Icebreaker

New sire Lance off the mark

Sean Tarry appropriately trained the first winner for Jet Master stallion Lance when Chris van Niekerk’s pretty grey Voltron shed her maiden at Turffontein on Sunday.

After two places at her first five starts, Voltron kicked into top gear under Lyle Hewitson to win the 1200m maiden in a time of 72,18 secs. The winning margin of 3,75 lengths spoke of the ease of the victory.

Chris van Niekerk, who raced her sire Lance, was the winning owner as the Summerhill-bred out of Jay Peg’s one-time winning daughter Silver Jay won readily.

At 3 Lance won his maiden impressively for Tarry over 1160m then followed up by winning the Listed Secretariat Stakes beating subsequent SA Triple Crown Champion Louis The King by 3,25 Lengths.

The half brother to Gr1 Summer Cup winner Liege and stakes winner Lockheed Star only raced sixed times for his two wins. He was rated 93 at 3.

“It’s a tragedy Lance broke down. He was amazingly talented, at least as good as his Gr1 winning brother Liege, and perhaps even more naturally so. Don’t forget his victim in the Secretariat Stakes was no less than Triple Crown winner, Louis The King!”

Jet Master’s son Lance hails from the family of Champions and Gr1 winners, Rebel King, Duc du Orleans, Liege and Golden Taipan.

Lance only has two foals registered in his first crop.

Lance stands at Summerhill – his fee is on application.
