The 4yo daughter of Ideal World attracted attention on inspection, due to a puncture wound on the left side of her neck.

Stipes reported:

Trainer B Impey was questioned with regard to the puncture wound on the left side of the neck of MUSIC WORLD. She explained to the Board that this filly had been given a bleeder preparation at the yard in the morning. This is the only explanation she could offer the Board. MUSIC WORLD was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Impey advised.  The holding boxes in the security area where her horses were kept as well as her staff were searched. Nothing untoward was found. This matter has been adjourned.

Jockey Anton Marcus subsequently took the filly to the start, where she was scratched.

Stipes reported:

Examined at the start. Bleeding from puncture wound left side jugular area. Scratched by the Veterinary Surgeon at 14:53:36 (NHA). 4/1 in the betting at the time of withdrawal.

An opinion canvassed by the Sporting Post indicated that it was fairly unusual to have an injection wound given in the morning still bleeding at the races, and that six hours in advance with some ice treatment usually did the trick.

Miss Impey was in the news earlier this week when fined for failing to vaccinate a horse against equine influenza and for altering a passport.
