Racing is on the polytrack today and eight races are carded. There are three apprentice handicaps on the programme.

The first race is due off at 12h35.

Gold Circle and Hollywoodbets partnered in the stakes top-up which was announced at the launch of the R5 million Hollywoodbets Durban July recently.

This sees the minimum stakes for any races in the province during this period increased to R100 000, while Grade 1 races such as the Daily News 2000, Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes, Mercury Sprint and the Champions Cup will each now carry a stake of R1million and the Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge will be run for R1,25m.

Hollywoodbets and Gold Circle also announced the Groom’s Double-Up which is an increase in the awards for the Grooms of winning horses in KZN from R1 000 to R2 000 per race, for the months of March, April and May.

It looks to be a nice competitive card today and Jimmy The Rich suggests that a decent bet looks to be Her Royal Majesty from the Yogas Govender stable takes her place in Race 5.

She finished 0.5 lengths behind Magicallee last time. She is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

She has won twice, finished second twice and third once from eleven starts over this course and distance. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry- ripe. She is likely to race on the speed once again and may be hard to peg back.

Duncan Howells – saddles Quest For The Best today (Pic – Candiese Lenferna)

Hollywoodbets-sponsored trainer Duncan Howells saddles Quest For The Best in the lucky last.

He was given an interesting ride when finishing third over this course and distance last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights with Forest Jump.

If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be the one to beat.

Please note that Donovan Dillon is not riding today.
