2016 KZN Breeders Awards - Anton Procter wins Breeders Achievement Award

Anton Procter receives the Breeders Achievement Award

Congratulations to Anton Procter, who dominated the juvenile awards with Misty Birnam and Dawn Calling – which earned Anton Procter the award for Outstanding Breeders Achievement.  Anton advised that Misty Birnam, a handsome grey son of Toreador out of a Verglas mare, has been sold for $150 000 to Hong Kong.

Mike Benson of Kjell Foundation picked up two awards for the daughter of Kahal and Salaam, Kwinta. Kwinta is a full sister to the outstanding sisters Eastern Greeting and Kalaam, what an incredible mare Salaam has been for the Bensons and congratulations to Mike on a great achievement.

2016 KZN Breeders Awards - Lifetime Achievement Award - Alan Sutherland

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Alan and Vera Sutherland

Special Awards went to Alan and Vera Sutherland for Lifetime Achievement, whilst Ken Twort, the breeder of dual Gr3 winner Viking Hero this past season, earned the Anita Akal Industry Award.

Not surprisingly, Kahal won Stallion Of The Year once more – he remains consistently in the top 4 on the National Sires Log and his beautifully-bred daughter Intergalactic “threw her name in to the hat” for next years KZN Breeders Awards, after winning the Gr2 Ipi Tombe Challenge for owner Chris Van Niekerk, and trainer Sean Tarry.

Bezanova wins the Gr2 Victory Moon Stakes

A hearty congratulations to Jenny and Peter Blyth of Clifton Stud on Bezanova’s incredible win the Gr2 Victory Moon Stakes. His sire Bezrin recently relocated to Cathy and Jonathan Martin’s Hadlow Stud, and Bezrin is enjoying a current winners to runners percentage of over 22%, a bit higher than some of the leading sires in the country.

Bezanova’s dam Ananova has visited Bush Hill Stud’s Flying The Flag this past season.

Yellow Star Stud’s Kildonan also enjoyed recent success with his daughter Beach Goddess, winning the Lasserfaire Listed for trainer Brett Crawford. The next day, Yellow Star’s own home-bred Ogilvy by Kildonan, came home to a shock win from just three starts at 100/1 on the Polytrack at Greyville, and Robert Mauvis’ three year old filly, Vision To Kill, is currently unbeaten in her first two starts!

Kildonan has had four winners in a matter of 12 days.

Sales Results

The recent CTS Ready To Run Sale saw Summerhill and Backworth Stud top the lots from the KZN progeny on sale. Summerhill Stud sold a handsome Visionaire colt for R550 000, whilst Balmoral sold a Backworth-bred Var filly for R475 000 to Mayfair Speculators.

Young sires such as Await The Dawn, saw an outstanding colt from the immediate dam line of Abashiri reach R360 000, whilst Linngari sold a colt for R320 000 from a Gr1 winning European family.

Well done to everyone concerned and wishing you all a safe and festive holiday season ahead.

See you at the races!
