Many of these would have preferred a bit longer and that includes the consistent ROCKET STAR. But he has a touch of class having placed at Group level against his own age group and the 1200m while fresh should suit and with Vlad Duric to ride he can be strongest late. The newcomer BREATHE FIRE has solid NZ form winning over 1400m at Otaki and his trial was sound; blinkers go on and with all horses lacking match fitness he can make his presence felt fresh. LIMITED EDITION doesn’t win often but is a consistent sort, the 3kg claim helps and he has the speed to overcome the gate. For the exotics include CHALAZA, WILD BEE, LIM’S TORPEDO and YOU QIAN XHUAN. The Covid-19 break won’t have helped any of these – they will still be unreliable and of limited ability. SUPER WIN had been threatening to win before the break, both his successes have come over this trip and with Matt Kellady to ride he will get all the favours from gate four. CLARTON STAR’s only win was at 1700m but he placed over this trip last outing and with Simon Kok taking the ride drops 6.5kg and will run on. SUPER TALENT is still a Maiden but he made good ground in the heavy rain last start; if he can get away cleanly this distance suits and he can be in the finish. MONTOYA is another Maiden but his best efforts have been on the poly and his recent trial was sound. If the second emergency MA BAO BAO gets a start it is capable of winning. AMAZING MAN doesn’t win often but fought on to place over this trip last start and should be handy. FLYING YELLOW is poorly drawn but has speed and could be hard to catch if allowed to dictate the tempo; he can win on recent trial form. Include FIREWORKS and FREE FALLIN’ in exotics. NOWYOUSEE ran them off their legs in the New Year Cup over this trip and from gate one could do the same. STAR OF JUPITER has been competitive in good company at past two outings and is well treated by the gate and has no weight. Include COUNTOFMONTECRISTO in exotics – he loves the poly. CALIFORNIA has shown some promise and fought on well over this trip last start and his recent nice trial suggests he can win. SUPER POSH and THOMAS DE LAGO are both proven performers at the trip with SUPER POSH likely to go forward whilst THOMAS DE LAGO will do the stalking. MY BIG BOSS won one of these two starts back and fought on solidly last start; he is suited here and with JP Van Der Merwe staying on should be in the finish again. SAMURAI EXPRESS disappointed last start from a wide gate but previous efforts in this class and distance were sound, with a better draw he can make his presence felt.
