Kotzen-Winnaar’s Pay ‘n Play

Oratorio daughter Snapscan mows down Gr1 duo

Paarl-based trainer Glen Kotzen and his stable jockey Morne Winnaar continued a red-hot run of form in their sizzling Cape summer campaign with another profitable feature day at the office at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The duo teamed up to win the R200 000 Gr3 Victress Stakes with the improving Oratorio filly, Snapscan – who marked her sire’s century of black-type horses.

The Woodhill Racing Team enjoyed a top day with this Gr3 win, an eyecatching maiden victress in Catchafallingstar, another cracker of a winning ride by Morne Winnaar’s 4kg-claiming son Joshwin Solomons on Six Degrees, a G1 runner-up in Viva Rio (like Snapscan, an Oratorio!) in the Cape Guineas, and a respectable seasonal debut by their rested Dynasty entire, Eyes Wide Open, in the Gr2 Premier Trophy.

And for Avontuur’s triple G1 winning sire Oratorio, it was another endorsement of the versatility quotient of the son of Danehill who gets them to both fly and  go a trip.

Relaxed early as Richard Fourie and Silvano’s Pride (18-10)  set the fractions in the 1800m Gr3 feature, Winnaar produced Snapscan (14-1) late and she scythed through the centre for an eyecatching victory by 3,25 lengths in a time of 110,78 secs.

Snaith’s Gr1 winning duo of Miyabi Gold and the tough as teak Silvano’s Pride stayed on for the place cheques.

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Snapscan is the third foal of the four-time winning Casey Tibbs mare, Cash Register – an own sister to the Kotzen’s much loved Vodacom Durban July winner, Big City Life.

Snapscan’s sire Oratorio, a dual champion in Italy, has produced offspring with international stakes earnings in excess of $65 000 000. He is currently fourth on the South African General Sires List.

Snapscan went through the National Yearling Sale ring at R400 000 and has banked stakes of R344 500 with 3 wins and 7 places from her 13 starts.
