Kotzen Can Maintain Visitor Stranglehold On Algoa Cup

First race is off 12h00

Nine races are carded at Fairview for the Betway Algoa Cup racemeeting today.

While Mother Nature has spoken and some matters are beyond anybody’s control, there is no question that the meeting has lost some of its lustre with the move earlier this week to the polytrack.

There is a R500 000 Pick 6 carryover with an, in our opinion, optimistic likely pool of R3 million.

The first is due off at 12h00.

Justin Snaith has taken his duo out of the feature but fellow Capetonian Glen Kotzen saddles a quartet, headed by the consistent Blackberry Malt who won a good race over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time.

He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. After last Friday’s Polytrack Triple Crown success with King Regent, jockey Denis Schwarz will return with confidence and the son of Ideal World looks a massive runner.

My Best Shot from the Alan Greeff stable takes his place in Listed Racehorse Owners Association Stakes.

He was an easy winner of his last start over 1400m on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The son of Fire Away should love the rise to 1600m and from pole position, he should take a power of beating.

Trainer Kelly Mitchley sends out Abound in Race 5. He set a fast pace over this distance on the turf last time and found more to hold all challengers at bay. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. Muzi Yeni is likely to adopt the same tactics this afternoon and he can follow up with another victory.

Please note that Rachel Venniker and Gareth Wright will not be riding at Fairview today.
