The running of the R225 000 Klawervlei Farm Sale Graduates Race at Kenilworth on Youth Day produced a super-quick return on a R55 000 investment for owner Ashwin Reynolds with 16-1 longshot Kommetdieding winning a smart race on debut.
Running on with a sustained effort down the centre, Kommetdieding (16-1) burst clear and went on under Sihle Cele to resist the challenge of the more fancied and previously raced filly Tanzanite Queen (13-18) by two lengths in a time of 75,39 secs.
The winner banked the R135 000 first cheque.
Piet Botha’s 30-1 shot Captain Dizzy plodded into third and some 4,50 lengths back in a strung out field.
Trainer Michelle Rix said that the son of Elusive Fort had not seen Kenilworth previously but that jockey Cele had suggested that the last time a horse had felt this good for him, was Edict Of Nantes. A surprise then that he started at 16-1!
Sihle confirmed that he had liked Kommetdieding ‘from the first day’.
“He came out a bit sluggish. He didn’t have a gallop but I was quietly confident. He pulled me up the hill and he is a smart horse. They are going to have fun with him,” said the jockey.
The winner , a graduate of the 2019 Klwaervlei Farm Sale, is out of the thrice winning Captain Al mare, Adorable.
A popular social and networking gathering for many years, the Klawervlei Farm Sale is being held in the less social environs of cyberspace this year.
The 2020 renewal, in partnership with Gavelhouse.com, commenced on Monday. It runs through to close on Sunday 21 June.
