Veteran Kimberley trainer Johan Myburgh produced the joker in the pack when the 7yo Jack Dan stormed ahead to win the R100 000 Kimberley 1400 run at Flamingo Park on Monday under Nooresh Juglall.
Jack Dan’s zest for racing appears to have no bounds and the son of Joshua Dancer made light of his 59,5kgs when registering his eleventh career win and pocketing a cheque of R62 500 for his trouble in the non black type feature.
Cliffie Miller’s solid Brazillian galloper Zezinho Belo surprised nobody when he dashed off to lead the eight horse field and he came for home leading Night Landing and Jack Dan, with Mr Vindaloo further back.
Gauteng visitor Great Smokey was the first to come under pressure in the final 300m as Marco Van Rensburg appeared to have matters in hand on the favourite Zezinho Belo. Eye Of The World was unleashing his effort from last position at the same time.
But in a matter of strides Jack Dan made his move and he put his stamp on things as they had no answer for his finishing burst.
Jack Dan powered on to beat the fast finishing Eye Of The World by 2,5 lengths in a time of 85,99 secs.
The 2 to 1 favourite Zezinho Belo stayed on for third a further half length away, with Mr Vindaloo plodding into fourth place.
Zezinho Belo may prefer 1200m and deserves another chance.
Jack Dan is a versatile, sound and game 7yo, who started his life out as a Port Elizabeth 1000m turf secialist, but who can run just as well from 1000m to 1800m on the sand. He has won five races this term in Kimberley, and is a genuine little money spinner for his connections.
His sire Joshua Dancer had serious fertility problems, but produced some very good fillies and was also the sire of the 2007 Cape Guineas winner Pointing North.
There aren’t too many Joshua Dancers around these days.
The Alchemy bred Jack Dan took his race record to 11 wins and 19 places from 61 starts, with gross stake earnings of R589 887.
