Kenya Racing Seeks Horses

Colts, geldings and fillies would all be welcome

The Jockey Club of Kenya has requested Graeme Hawkins to source up to 20 horses to continue their racing careers at Ngong Race Course, Nairobi, Kenya.

In a letter dated 16 June 2022, Miriam Haynes, Chairperson of the Jockey Club of Kenya writes that ideally these horses would be donated to the Jockey Club of Kenya and should be 3 years or 4 years old as of 1 August 2022.

Colts, gelding and fillies are all welcome.

We accept these ‘donations’ would come from a pool of uncompetitive horses in South Africa but they would go a long way to keeping our racing dream alive in Kenya.

While we accept they might be slow horses by South Africa standards, we do appeal for all donations to be sound of limb.

We have been in communication with Roxy Ellis of RE Trading Cross Border Transport and she advises that their trucks would each carry a load of 10 horses. The horses would be transported from Johannesburg to Nairobi.

Our Racing Season ends on 31 July 2022 and the ideal time would be for the South Africa ‘donations’ to travel to Kenya mid-August, 2022.

This, in turn, would allow optimum time for them to recover from the journey and to acclimate to their new environment before our 2022/2023 Racing Season’s first Race Meeting mid-October 2022.

On behalf of the Jockey Club of Kenya, I would like to express our genuine appreciation for your support towards the future of Horse Racing in Kenya.
