SA champion and recent Longines International Jockeys’ Challenge winner Gavin Lerena will represent his country in Kenya in January.

The Jockey Club of Kenya have announced that Britam Kenya Ltd are once again the frontline sponsors for the first classic of the season, the Britam Kenya Guineas to be run on 17 January 2016, which is the headline event on the day.

In 2015 the Jockey Club Of Kenya introduced the first Kenya International Jockeys’ Challenge series,  inviting two jockeys from Mauritius, South Africa and Zimbabwe to compete against the locals. This was a major success and attracted some 7700 fans.

Zimbabwe won the inaugural challenge.

The invited jockeys include:

Gavin Lerena (SA), Quintin Riddle (Zimbabwe), Swapnell Rama (Mauritius), Patrick Mungai (Kenya).

Support sponsors include the Racing Association, the TBA and Gold Circle.

At the recent 22nd World Travel Awards, Kenya picked up three awards and is one of the undiscovered gems of the African continent.
