The Joy Of Owning A Derby Winner

12500 owners with 12,5% of the winner

Never in the history of the Gr1 Kentucky Derby have so many owners celebrated having a piece of the winning pie as was the case on Saturday.

Owning 12.5% of the winner Authentic (Into Mischief), MyRaceHorse – boasting 12,500 micro owners – was provided with the opportunity to buy into the future millionaire earner, and exciting stallion prospect, by Spendthrift Farm’s principal B. Wayne Hughes.

According to horseracingnation.com, MyRaceHorse founder Michael Behrens revealed Hughes was immediately receptive when approached to selling part of the star 3YO: “He told me, ‘The reason I do this is because the sport is better than the NFL. We just got to let people know.’ So he wanted everybody to compete at the highest level. He wanted to do it in a way that had never been done before.”

Claiming his sixth Kentucky Derby, trainer Bob Baffert was equally swept up in the MyRaceHorse momentum, with his own family members and other celebrities owning a tiny slice of history.

Spendthrift president Eric Gustavson enthused, “Wayne really took to the idea of being able to bring horse ownership to every man, literally every man and woman, any economic status, race, anything. There’s no limit because anyone, literally anyone, can buy in, and he loved that idea.”
