An unfortunate sequence of events impacted on the off-times of the eight races at Kenilworth on Wednesday, with stakeholders playing catch up in mid afternoon, and the final event eventually jumping just under four minutes late.
Race-times and the lack of punctuality and adherence thereto is a long debated bone of contention on the SA racing landscape, and a few frustrated players contacted the Sporting Post to ask why the raceday started late.
It is an important aspect of the international feed that we stay as true as possible to the carded off times.
The start of the first race at Kenilworth was delayed, like Fairview on Friday, due to a TERS dispute by the NHRA’s part time staff. After some consultation, the issue was apparently resolved and all staff returned to work.
The start of the second race was delayed close on 8 minutes at the request of the Racing Operator, due to a clash with the third event at Happy Valley, Hong Kong.
A sad injury to a filly at the finish of the second race, caused a knock on to the third race – which went off 14 minutes after the carded time.
The fourth race jumped close on 9 minutes after the carded time.
Things mostly improved thereafter.
