A controlled vegetation fire at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on Wednesday sparked a large number of calls by concerned residents.
The city’s fire and rescue spokesperson Theo Layne said they were inundated with calls from people reporting the fire on the corner of Rosmead and Wetton Road.
“It is a prescribed controlled burn. There is obviously quite a bit of smoke but it is not a large fire,” he said.
The fire, to remove green shubbery, was expected to be extinguished later on Wednesday.
