Newsflash: Kenilworth Goes Ahead

All systems go for Kenilworth on 29 August - despite ominous clouds

Slushy Saturday. Chris Puller returns to the unsaddling enclosure after the last on Saturday. The Liesbeek River is behind him…!

It is dark and overcast in Cape Town at the moment, but this afternoon’s meeting at Kenilworth is definitely on according to Gold Circle. After Saturday’s dynamic effort against the odds, we are not surprised to hear that!

A north westerly wind(tail wind)  is blowing and while 22mm of rain has fallen in the past seven days, no rain has fallen in the past 24 hours and we have enjoyed two beautiful days of sunshine.

An average penetrometer reading of 37 has been recorded – substantially off Saturday’s worst of 59!

The winter course will have a 6m spur @ approximately the 450m mark

The card is an eight race programme with the exotics off as follows:

Place Accumulator in race 2 at 13h20

Pick 6 in race 3 at 13h55

Jackpot in race 4 at 14h30

The following horses have been recorded as scratchings up to 10h00:

Race 1 take out number 14 Mari. Trainer Eric Sands produced a Vet certificate.

Race 2 take out number 14 Taxi Man. He is lame near hind.

Race 3 take out number 5 Belcourt Castle on grounds of coughing and number 8 Authentic Albert who is not eating up.

Race 7 take out number 5 November Rain on grounds of coughing.

Race 8 take out number 2 Halfway To Heaven. Trainer Eric Sands produced a Vet certificate. Also taking no part here is number 3 Mission House, reported coughing and number 8 Lily Lafitte, who was reported by assistant trainer Gavin Blake as being off her feed. In the same race number 17 Double First has changed stables and will not run today.

The Jockey Changes:

In race 2 number 7 Stormy Ridge will be ridden by Fareed Anthony

In race 5 number 10 Susanna will be ridden by MJ Byleveld

Go wide and have a great day punting!

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute.
