Longstanding Cape owner Keith Steinberg is putting his money where his mouth is with a double feature Group race sponsorship at Kenilworth on Saturday.
The R200 000 Gr3 Lektron Chairman’s Cup has attracted a nine horse field and will prove a crowd pleaser over the 3200m trip.
The R150 000 Gr3 Two Oceans Racing Prix Du Cap sees a bumper field of top class fillies and mares slugging it out over 1400m.
The two features bring the curtain down on one of the most successful Sizzling Summer Seasons in recent memory.
The day features the Cape Town Prawn Festival and R50 000 worth of appliances and betting vouchers will be given away.
Live entertainment includes a five piece jazz band.
Steinberg, who has had his silks at various times for close on twenty five years, says that his passion and commitment to our racing industry is the overriding factor in his decision.
“Many people involved in our industry have tried to take so much out of racing. I have put so much of my own money into racing. This is what racing needs. Racing is a sport. It is sadly too often seen only as a business. I just want to have fun,” he said.
Lektron was established in 1946 and is probably the oldest appliance brand still in existence in South Africa.
Operating primarily as an importer and wholesaler, the company has established reputable brands, offering products within the electronic, personal care and small home appliance market.
Vigorous investment in the development of product standards, product feature enhancements, brand awareness and supply chain efficiencies has already placed the company within reach of almost all of the largest sized retail-outlet chain store groups in South Africa.
The success of the company is the ability to develop brand awareness, offer competitive prices on a broad selection of products, and provide a competitive edge with their “value for money” products and superior customer service.
Steinberg, purchased Lektron from the previous owners, who had been involved in the company themselves for over 40 years.
They have sponsored jockeys Andrew Fortune, Grant van Niekerk previously and currently sponsor Bernard Fayd’herbe. Lektron are currently negotiating a sponsorship and jockey management agreement with Met shock jock Aldo Domeyer.
Two Oceans Racing (Pty) Ltd was established in 2011, as a vehicle for horseracing enthusiasts in SA and abroad, who are looking to get involved or associate themselves in any aspect of the racing industry.
They offer numerous services, some of which are business ventures, but mostly intended to attract new racing enthusiasts to just have some honest fun.
The Two Oceans mission statement is interesting:
To simplify the ownership of racehorses and to magnify the enjoyment and share in the thrill of horseracing. We aim to make a positive difference in the horseracing industry providing a service that is reliable, honourable and void of hidden agendas and personal gain.
That sounds like the foundation for a story for another day. In the meanwhile, well done Keith!
