Karl Neisius – sidelined for at least six weeks
Veteran Cape jockey Karl Neisius is expected to be out of the saddle for at least six weeks following the recurrence of a lower back injury.
Neisius, who at 58 years of age, is the senior statesman of the SA jockey ranks, told the Sporting Post that he was being guided by his medical specialists and was in their hands.
“I have been active my whole life and it is frustrating being injured. But I will try and occupy my mind and maintain my fitness levels through regular swimming,” he said.

Neisius has ridden 4 winners so far this season, with his last success coming aboard the longshot Exploracy for trainer Shane Humby at Durbanville on Saturday 12 September. That was also the last meeting he rode at.
He started riding at the age of 4 and went to the SA Jockey Academy ten years later.
The veteran horseman clocked up his 3000th career winner on Cape Royal for Dean Kannemeyer in 2012 and has continued to churn out the winners.
He has won a host of SA Gr1 races in his forty year career – but a lifetime ambition to win the J&B Met has eluded him so far.
