Dean Kannemeyer and his longstanding patron Khaya Stables opened the Gold Cup day proceedings in the best way possible when the fancied Silvano’s Timer showed his liking for the polytrack and scored his first stakes success with an eyecatching victory in the R150 000 Marshalls World Of Sport Listed Darley Arabian at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Given an accomplished ride by soon-to-be-crowned KZN champion jockey and brand new Winning Form-sponsored rider Keagan de Melo, the lightly raced Silvano’s Timer (11-2) kept on with impressive resolve to hold Donald Mcdonald (14-1) to 0,40 lengths in a time of 92,69 secs.
The Drakenstein-bred winner is 4yo a son of deceased champion Silvano (Lomitos) out of the five-time winning Captain Al mare Tick Tock.
Silvano’s Timer was purchased at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale for R1 million. He is now a winner of 4 races with 4 places from 11 starts for stakes of R255 200.
Silvano’s Timer was the high-riding Drakenstein Stud’s 18th feature winner of the season.
