Kannemeyer Countess Should Be A Banker Today

First due off @ 12h00

After the postponement to Monday of today’s Turffontein racemeeting, the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth racemeeting goes ahead under bright sunny skies as a standalone local fixture with ten bumper races carded.

The Western Cape Gr2 Fillies Championship, the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes and the Listed Woolavington Stakes are the three features and the outcome of each of them will play an integral part in the structure of Pick 6 bets.

Gimmie’s Countess from the Dean Kannemeyer stable takes her place in the Western Cape Gr2 Fillies Championship and, even despite her 12 draw, strikes us as the likely banker in the exotics.

She quickened up well when winning the Gr3 Baker McVeigh Diana Stakes last time.

She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter.

The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.

While Gimmie’s Countess has shown outstanding ability and is the standout on official ratings, there are a number of opponents who could trouble her if things go pear-shaped from her 12 draw.

The Grade 1-placed Symphony in White has not run for six weeks and has her first run beyond the sprints. She looks classy and is well drawn.

Recent maiden winner Little Suzie is an interesting proposition.

Drawn 1, she could stamp herself as a genuine classic prospect and was breathtaking at her maiden victory when blowing her, admittedly mostly ordinary, opposition out of the park.

She is a daughter of Trippi out of Met winner Oh Susanna and is improving at the rate of knots.

Her rider Grant van Niekerk has been riding well since the return to the Southern Suburbs venue, which clearly suits his riding style better.

Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson sends out Winter Rainfall in the Laisserfaire Stakes (Race 6) and she represents decent each way value.

She ran a fair race when sixth over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time.

She finished 0.2 lengths behind Southern Skies in her penultimate run. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned.

She is having her peak run today and may be the one to cause the upset.

Please note that jockeys Louis Mxothwa and Marco van Rensburg are not riding today. Most of their replacements have already been published on www.sahorseracing.co.za.
