Kannemeyer And Khaya Look To Splash Out

Schweppes Gr3 Politician Stakes

Dean Kanneyer and his longstanding supporters Khaya Stables last won the Cape Derby with Capetown Noir in 2013, and now look to have a serious SplashOut Cape Derby prospect on their hands in the shape of the talented Green With Envy.

The handsome athletic specimen lumbered top weight to score an emphatic victory in Saturday’s R350 000 Schweppes Gr2 Politician Stakes at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.

With champion sires on both sides of his pedigree, and a dam who won her only start at 2400m, Green With Envy has always looked classic material and confirmed his placed efforts in the Cape Punters Cup and Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas late last year, with a scintillating show.

Relaxed in last place for much of the 1800m journey, Green With Envy (5-2) made up his ground in the run for home to beat The Grey King (10-1) by 1,25 lengths in a very good time of 111,50 secs.

The runner-up’s stablemate Harajuku (16-1) stayed on best of the rest 0,40 lengths further back in third.

Bred and raced by Lady Christine Laidlaw’s Khaya Stables, Green With Envy, who was raised on the beautiful Varsfontein Stud, is by SA champion sire Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) out of the Irish-bred unbeaten in one start over 2400m Miss Coco, a daughter of champion Galileo.

Now a winner of 3 races with 3 places from 7 starts for stakes of R515 775, Green With Envy looks set to be seen next in the SplashOut Cape Derby.
