The well oiled Snaith Racing marketing machine moved into top gear moments after their Maine Chance Farms bred Dynasty gelding Run For It had cruised home to win an Allowance Plate at Greyville on Friday evening.
In a press release issued shortly afterwards, the dynamic team declared that one of the unluckiest horses in racing, Run for It, now seems to be at his very best after gelding. He won the second race at Greyville, but punters countrywide were denied a glimpse of the star after alleged cable theft blacked out Tellytrack coverage.
His first run back from gelding was in the Drill Hall Stakes when slicing through the field to finish a low-level flying fourth behind Beach Beauty. hat was over a distance far too short form him. His next start was tonight at Greyville over a mile against a field which included the 2012 Summer Cup winner, Wagner.
As a 3 year old Run For It ran third behind Past Master in the 2011 J & B Met. A year later he flew up from last to run fourth behind Igugu beaten 1.3 lengths after finding major traffic problems.
Run for It is currently 7th in the Vodacom Durban July betting and after this win he is expected to catapult into the top three in the betting.
Sean Cormack was given the choice to ride either Jet Explorer or Run for It and he instantly decided on the latter stating “I would rather ride Run for It than any other horse in this race. He has improved lengths and I feel he will be very hard to beat in this year’s Durban July”.
Snaiths’ backup for the Vodacom Durban July is current third favourite Jet Explorer who looks most likely to be ridden by Anthony Delpech, who has won this race twice in the last three years on Igugu (2011) and Bold Silvano (2010).
Snaith was incredibly upbeat saying “There is no standout in the July this year and Run for It with 56.5kg looks ready. I am going into the July quietly confident with these two sound horses. Jet Explorer is certain to run a big race and if Run for It produces his best he will take a lot of beating.”
All in all, this year’s Vodacom Durban July remains a very open and exciting contest.
Final declarations are due in on Monday 24 June and the final field and barrier draw will be announced the next day.
