Twenty horses, including two reserves, will be carded for the R5 million Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July to be run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday 2 July.

The first entry contingent numbering 68 was published on Wednesday 20 April for the 126th renewal of Africa’s richest graded stakes race, sponsored for the first time by South Africa’s international sportsbook operator, Hollywoodbets.

Tickets went on sale at midday on Tuesday 26 April.

With ante-post betting already available via Hollywoodbets, there is plenty of interest ahead of Champions Day on Saturday at Turffontein.

There are 17 Hollywoodbets Durban July entries running on Champions Day.

  • Super Silvano runs in the 1400m Pinnacle Stakes.
  • All of Astrix, Flying Carpet, Johnny Hero, Kommetdieding, MK’s Pride, Puerto Manzano, Second Base, Shangani, Shango, Sparkling Water, Zeus and Zillzaal run in the TAB Gr1 The Premier’s Champions Challenge.
  • Perfect Witness, Rain In Holland and Sprinkles run in the 4Racing Gr2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes.
  • SA Champion Stayer Nebraas runs in The Citizen Gr3 Gold Bowl.

The big race weights will be published on Tuesday, 14 June.

The following conditions apply to the framing of the weights:

  • The weights to be carried shall not exceed 60kg and shall not be less than 52kg.
  • Minimum weight for 4-year-olds and older:
  • Colts and Geldings 53kg / Fillies and Mares 52kg
  • Maximum weight for 4-year and older at publication of weights:
  • Colts and Geldings 60kg / Fillies and Mares 59kg
  • Minimum weight for 3-year-olds:
  • Colts and Geldings 53kg / Fillies 52kg
  • Maximum weight for 3-year-olds at publication of weights:
  • Colts and Geldings 57kg / Fillies and Mares 56kg
  • No penalties shall be incurred after the publication of weights.
  • The Handicapper will raise all weights proportionately to 60kg. Should the top weight originally allotted be less than 60kg at final declaration.
