July Day Jockey Policy Change

Door opens for young guns

Callan Murray

Callan Murray will be one of those hoping he gets a few rides on the big day

In what will be a boost for their confidence and an interesting tactical alternative for trainers, 4kg claiming apprentice riders will now be permitted to ride on Vodacom Durban July day.

The rule applicable up to now prohibited the engagement of the maximum claimers. While these apprentices will now be allowed to ride, the policy of feature race non claims still applies.

Apprentices subject to qualifying rides will still however, not be permitted to ride on July day.

Declarations for the minor races are due on 24 June.
