The terrific sportsmanship shown by owner Fred Crabbia and trainer Dean Kannemeyer in the aftermath of the disappointment of having Derby winner It’s My Turn rejected by the Vodacom Durban July panel was rewarded when the classy gelding stormed home to win the R500 000 Gr3 Gold Vase on Saturday.

Owner Fred Crabbia has invested millions into the sport in this country and was interviewed by the Sporting Post after his Gr1 winner It’s My Turn failed to make the cut for the big race – even after a great victory in the Gr3 Track & Ball Derby.

But sometimes things happen for good reason and carrying joint topweight over the 3000m, It’s My Turn floated up the outside of his field under Anton Marcus to confirm his recovery from past aches and pains and register his second win on the trot.
Starting a popular 26-10 fancy, It’s My Turn beat the game Go Deputy filly Flichity By Farr by 1,25 lengths in a time of 190.95 secs in a great start for Pick 6 punters with the exotic pool hitting 13,2 million.
Joburg visitor Sheet Weaver went off at 50-1 and stayed on well under his featherweight to run third ahead of One Direction.
The winner’s stablemate One Man Show was not disgraced in fifth.

Owner Fred Crabbia had his Grandchildren on course and thanked pre-trainer Jane Thomas and his Racing Manager Emma Rourke. He also paid tribute to a fine ride by Anton Marcus.
Trainer Dean Kannemeyer said that he was ‘thrilled and confirmed that It’s My Turn had a real touch of class.
“Ït all worked out well. Thanks to Fred. I am pleased to have given him and his team another stakes winner.”
Still nursing a recovering wrist, winning rider Anton Marcus said that there was no better medication than a winner.
A R400 000 National Yearling Sale graduate, It’s My Turn has won 4 races with 9 places from 18 starts for stakes of R2 020 025.
The powerful 5yo was bred by Willempie Engelbrecht Jnr and is one of eight individual Derby winning sons of classic producer Dynasty (Fort Wood) out of the rather modest one-time winner Jallad’s Queen (Jallad).
