Judpot For Vogel Vlei

Equus outstanding stallion

Judpot, the sire with the ‘incomparable pedigree’, will be moving from Varsfontein Stud to Syd & Colin Birch’s Vogel Vlei Stud in Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape for the 2019 breeding season.

Both Varsfontein Stud and the Niarchos family have made this difficult decision in the best interests of Judpot, so as to obtain greater support for him in a new region – than he has been getting in recent years.

Carl de Vos of Varsfontein says: “We are so very proud of what Judpot has achieved for us since arriving at Varsfontein in 2009. We are delighted that in his new home, he will have the support of a stud on the rise as well as being part of the historical breeding legacy of the Birch family. Varsfontein will continue to support Judpot while he is at Vogel Vlei.”

Few pedigrees in the stud book pack the punch that Judpot’s pedigree possesses. By multiple Champion Sire and Leading American sire of sires A.P. INDY, out of the multiple Champion Racemare (9 Championships), 10 Gr1 wins and Champion Broodmare, MIESQUE – the dam of KINGMAMBO (Mr Prospector).

This female line is incredibly dominant with MIESQUE’s descendants producing Champions and group & graded winners Worldwide – even in South Africa where AMANEE won the Thekwini S G1.

Judpot’s sire A.P. INDY – a Champion on the racetrack and one of America’s most celebrated sires – turned 30 years old on 31 March 2019. He is enjoying his retirement at Lane’s End in Kentucky. A.P. INDY has become the oldest living winner of the G1 Belmont Stakes and the oldest living Classic winner overall. He is also the oldest living winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Judpot has been a very successful sire, producing 60% winners to runners and 10% stakes horses to runners.

He received the Equus Outstanding Stallion Achievement Award in 2013. With his phenomenal genes, Judpot is set to make a formidable broodmare sire and contribute greatly to the South African stud book. Varsfontein have retained and purchased many of Judpot’s daughters for stud. A Varsfontein yearling filly (I DREAM OF GENIE) out of a Judpot mare, by Gimmethegreenlight, sold for R550,000 on the 2019 NYS.

Colin Birch of Vogel Vlei says: “ We are extremely grateful to Varsfontein and the Niarchos family for entrusting Judpot into our care – we will endeavor to support him with our growing band of select broodmares and are thrilled to have a stallion of his quality on our farm.”
