Jockeys – Scale Protocols Warning

And they must obey reasonable instructions

Jockeys have been instructed to stand upright and to look forward when standing on the centre of the scale when being weighed in or out, in future.

In a letter dated 24 June 2022, copies of which were sent to the Sporting Post by some recipients, the National Horseracing Authority instructs jockeys regarding the scale protocols, and also draws their attention to the rules which bind them to obeying a reasonable instruction from a licenced official.

No background is sketched as to what gave rise to the instruction.

In a recent letter published in the Sporting Post Mailbag, a former heavyweight SA Champion jockey implicated an official in alleged bribery for manipulation of the scale.

Despite the letter being widely circulated, the racing regulator has not responded officially or informed the racing public of any inquiry into what are damning allegations.
