Jill, an experienced rider, owns the popular The Fort Stud in Fort Nottingham and was out exercising a horse when she fell and injured herself.

Without medical aid, things could have turned out a lot worse, but the racing and breeding community rallied around and with fundraising efforts spearheaded by KZN Breeders Club Chairperson Cathy Martin, an amount of R257 000 was raised in double quick time.

This allowed Jill access to hospital care and she underwent surgery just days ago.

“From the bottom of my heart I would like to say a very big thank you to each and every one of you who have helped contribute to getting me back on my feet. There are too many to mention but a big thank you to KZN Breeders, and those involved with raising funds to get me the help I needed.

I would also like to thank all my family, friends and my fabulous team of staff members who have been there to support me through my accident. For all the calls messages, visits and all the lovely treats but most important the positive vibes you have all brought me.

I am happy to say that I am back home with a new hip and counting down the months, then weeks, and then finally the days, until I can get back on a horse again,” said a clearly happier Jill on Monday.

KZN Breeders’ Cathy Martin said that she had no words for the generosity shown by Breeders, racing people and many in the showjumping community and other equine disciplines.

“The response has been unprecedented. We have raised just over R257 000 which should cover her costs. Depending on aftercare etc if there is money left over, we will use it to start some form of medical cover going forward. Thank you all again,” concluded Cathy.

Jill is still in need of assistance to cover post-surgery costs, those wishing to assist may forward all donations to the KZN Breeders Club via:
