Met field reduced to fifteen runners as Equus Champion withdrawn

Champion South African stayer, In Writing, has been withdrawn from Saturday’s Gr1 J&B Met.

In an announcement this morning, his trainer Dean Kannemeyer said that he was disappointed to have to take the step.

The Argentinian bred son of Editor’s Note ran a cracker in last year’s Met and won the 2012 Gr1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup in fine style.

He was considered by many to be the dark horse of the race.

There was some consternation when In Writing missed the Met Gallops as a precaution, as he had not eaten up the night before.

He was officially withdrawn at 11:24 today ( 31 January 2013) for reason that he has been certified to be lame on the near fore.
