Isolated showers and temperatures in the low 20’s are expected to greet racegoers attending today’s Gr1 J&B Met at Kenilworth.The respite, after a few days of sweltering 30 degree plus heat, will be welcomed and will certainly make things more comfortable on the course in an environment where air-conditioning is often a luxury.
On the racing front, the betting market appears to have stabilised and recovered momentum after the disappointing withdrawal of the original favourite, Legislate.
Jockey Piere Strydom has picked up two peach rides after Anton Marcus announced that he would not be making the trip down to Cape Town.
It is has been a forgettable season for the KZN-based Marcus, who was injured again at Scottsville on Tuesday.
Strydom thus gets off The Conglomerate and gets aboard hot Investec Cape Derby favourite Act Of War.
In the final race of the day, the Gr2 J&B Urban Honey Stayers, Strydom replaces Marcus on the fancied Coltrane – also for Joey Ramsden and the Joostes.
