Young Lloyd Breaks Ice

Ride no 23 is the magic number

Jaden Lloyd has ridden his first winner in Australia. The son of legend Jeff Lloyd broke his duck on Autocrat at Jerilderie in the final event on Saturday, the Lowes Petroleum Benchmark 50 Handicap.

The seven-year-old Written Tycoon gelding carried 51.5kg, and paid A$9.00 for a win.

This was teenager Jaden’s 23rd ride, but of humble beginnings great careers are made, as his mother Nicola was quick to emphasise in a twitter message.

“So proud of our boy – got the monkey off his back on ride 23 – you beat Dad it took him 38 ” was her heartfelt tribute.
