It’s The Summit Of Summer!

Gr1 Betway Summer Cup - the day has dawned

Summer has arrived!

The day is heating up with an exhilarating ten-race programme carded for Turffontein this afternoon, the main event being the Gr1 Betway Summer Cup.

There is a R2 million Pick 6 carryover with a likely pool of R10 million.

Don’t forget about the free-to-play Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge with the first due off at 11h30.

Sandringham Summit from the David Nieuwenhuizen stable takes his place in the Gr2 Jonsson Workwear Dingaans and he is the best bet on the card.

He should have won his last start in the Gr3 Betway Graham Beck Stakes. He moved up well, hit the front but Main Defender fought back well.

He won a good race in the Gr1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes over this distance in his penultimate start.

The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on since his last outing and if ridden with a bit more restraint, he should take a power of beating.

Puerto Manzano from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable is the pick in the Gr1 Betway Summer Cup.

He was given a peach of a ride when winning the Gr2 Allied Steelrode – Onamission Charity Mile.

He has had the perfect preparation heading into this race and will be at peak fitness. Seven of his ten career victories have come on this course including winning this race last year.

He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Hollywoodbets-sponsored Trainer Stuart Pettigrew sends out Alula’s Star in the Gr3 Joburg Tourism Carry On Alice Stakes.

She has decent consistent form lines to her credit. She finished second in the Listed National Colour Stakes last time over 1000m on this course.

She has won twice and finished second twice from six starts over this course and distance. She will strip a much fitter horse today and can notch up her seventh-career victory.
