Globetrotting Greg Strikes Again

Lovely winner in Malaysia on a big weekend for our top rider

Cape jockey Greg Cheyne maintained  his terrific win strike rate in Malaysia, when he rode another superb winner today at the Selangor Turf Club’s Carlsberg Triple Crown meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Cheyne registered a win at the Peugeot Cup meeting at the same track a fortnight ago and continued in the same vein earlier today.

He has also been in devastating form locally and is enjoying one of his best starts to a season ever.

Cheyne, who has ridden internationally with great success in recent years, started the day when he booted home The Millionaire with a beautiful ride in the opener.

He was then beaten a short head on a horse called Unme, before having no luck in the day’s feature, the Carlsberg Triple Crown, on Crazy Club, who ran a close up fourth.

“I have no doubt that but for not getting a clear run at a crucial stage of the race, I would have fought it out with the eventual winner of the feature, Harry’s Pal. But that’s racing for you,” he said philosophically.

Let me entertain you! Robbie Williams a great live act, says Greg Cheyne

Cheyne said he was grateful and thankful to the committee of the Selangor Turf Club for the invitation to ride on their big days and said it was a pleasure to enjoy the sport in an environment where there was such a passionate following.

Besides the horseracing, Greg managed to attend the  Singapore Grand Prix Friday practice sessions and Saturday practice and qualifying session at the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore.

“What an awesome experience as I really enjoy Formula One Racing. And then after the qualifying session on Saturday, Robbie Williams was on stage as the main act. One and a half hours in the rain but the best live concert I have ever had the privilege of attending. He was amazing!” said an excited Cheyne.

He added that he would miss the Grand Prix today as he was in transit back to Singapore but would be attending the Jennifer Lopez concert after the race.

Can’t be easy having to attend two live concerts in one weekend…

Cheyne said he was looking forward to travelling back to South Africa in time to ride at the Durbanville meeting on Wednesday.

Congratulations Greg!

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
