 Background:

The UK’s Daily Mail has named Mike de Kock ‘racing’s pioneering international handler’, one who belongs to a “new breed of trainer flourishing on a belief that no race in the world is too far away”.

Mike is internationally acknowledged as a World leader in the training profession and he has a host of supporters who firmly believe he has few or no equals. Passionate and progressive, he has improved his results year on year for 26 years and in 20012/13 saddled a stable record, 164 winners – contributing to a career tally approaching 3,000 winners worldwide.

Mike has permanent training establishments in South Africa (Randjesfontein and Summerveld), Dubai (Blue Stables) and Newmarket, UK (Abington Place). To 31 August 2014 he has trained 99 Gr1 winners, including a record 9 Gr1 Summer Cups, 4 Gr1 Durban July’s and 2 J&B Mets. He has won races on four continents – including Group successes in Dubai, Hong Kong,, Singapore, Turkey, and the USA. His international Gr1 wins include the recent Hong Kong Champions Mile with Variety Club, the Hong Kong Cup (Eagle Mountain), the QE11 Cup (Archipenko, Irridesence), the Dubai Duty Free (Right Approach) and the Singapore Cup (Lizard’s Desire).

Mike’s patrons include Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan of Dubai, Mary Slack, Berrnard Kantor, Mike Rattray , Markus Jooste and Gaynor Rupert. Jehan Malherbe of Form Bloodstock and Dr John Mcveigh complete Mike’s ‘Hands-On’ team. Jehan and Mike select horses at sales all over the world and are always on the lookout for purchases of suitable horses in training. Jehan has knowledge of pedigrees second to none, a well-trained eye and he is on top of the world’s racing results.

The MDK International Syndicate was conceived by journeyman Grant Knowles of Klawervlei Stud, who commented: “This is an ideal opportunity for ambitious owners to pool their strengths in acquiring top quality runners to be trained by one of the world’s best trainers. The timing is good, we were in a taxi in Hong Kong when Variety Club won the Champions Mile a few months ago when the taxi driver recognized Mike, many others did too. He is a bigger celebrity overseas than he is in his own country!”
