Interference – Zackey Suspended

Given the Right of Appeal against both the finding & penalty imposed

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa (NHA) confirms that at an Inquiry held in Gqeberha on Friday, 11 April 2025, Jockey Craig Zackey was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

The particulars being that as the rider of CHEEKY LADDIE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (Sandile Khathi) when he shifted in at the 600m in Race 7 at Fairview Racecourse on 28 February 2025.

Jockey Zackey pleaded not guilty, however, he was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating and aggravating factors, as well as taking Jockey Zackey’s recent record with regard to contraventions of this Rule into account, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.

Jockey Zackey was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and penalty imposed.
