Inquiry – Jockey Craig du Plooy

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town today Jockey Craig du Plooy was charged on two counts with contraventions of Rule 77.1; read with sub Rules 77.1.1; and 77.2.8, in that urine specimens taken from him at Kenilworth Racecourse on 6 May 2012 and on 9 June 2012, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Codeine, which is an opiate, and a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa.

Mr du Plooy pleaded guilty to and was found guilty on both counts.

The Inquiry Board, in coming to a penalty, having regard to the dates of these two specimens and the dates the analysis disclosed the presence of Codeine, combined the charges for penalty purposes and suspended Jockey du Plooy from riding in races for a period of four weeks, of which two weeks are wholly suspended for a period of twelve months provided that during that period he is not found guilty of a contravention of Rule 77.1.1.

Mr du Plooy has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
