A 2yo that cost the rand equivalent of over nine times the gross stake of the 2020 Sun Met will debut for Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden at Randwick on Saturday.
The partnership send out their high-priced colts Mount Fuji and Rulership.
Snitzel colt Mount Fuji (seen above) was picked up for a sale-topping A$2.8 milllion at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, while Rulership went for less than a third of that, with ‘only’ A$900,000 being forked out for the son of I Am Invincible at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Punters.com.au reports that they don’t know their price, as the saying goes – be that yearling value or market expectations – and it’s Rulership that has come up as favourite for the race after comfortably beating subsequent Canterbury winner Prague in a trial, with Mount Fuji the third in the betting with TAB.
Co-trainer Paul Snowden offered his thoughts on the pre-debut form of the horse they’ve nicknamed ‘two-point-eight’.
“He’s certainly got his own share of ability – the family are pretty proven there, quick horses,” Snowden told RSN 927.
“We’re taking it quiet, there’s no pressure from the team.
“He steps out on Saturday, he’s been exposed with one official trial and a couple of unofficials at home, and he seems to do everything quite comfortably.
“Off a good draw, hopefully we can see him run well.”
Offered by Corumbene Stud, the colt was sold to James Harron Bloodstock. He has been sighted at the trials where he ran second to Barbaric (I Am Invincible-Mimi Lebrock, by Show A Heart) over 900m.
Mount Fuji’s dam Ichihara won six races, four at stakes level, including the Gr2 Magic Night Stakes, and she is a full sister to Listed winner Isurava, who is the dam of Gr1 placed and Gr2 winner Menari (Snitzel), making Mount Fuji, a three-quarter brother to Menari.
This is the family of thirteen-time Gr1 winner Tie The Knot, and his Gr1 winning dam Whisked. Mount Fuji is the second foal of Ichihara, and her first foal Omar (Snitzel) has won three of his seven starts to date.
