Johan Janse van Vuuren and Hollywoodbets sponsored former KZN champion Duncan Howells will share the first cheque in the 2020 KZN Winter Challenge trainer’s incentive after their horses On The Double and Special Blend dead-heated for first on the log finalised last week.
Brett Crawford’s Kingston Rock is in third spot in the competition that ran from 12 January to 2 July.
The three finals of the KZN Winter Challenge will be run at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday as support features to the Track & Ball Derby and Track & Ball Oaks.
The finals – over 1200m, 1600m and 1950m – are the culmination of a series that gives the average handicapper a chance to compete for a present-day above average stake of R75 000 per event.
Trainers get the chance to earn an incentive bonus, on condition that their horses are pre-entered.
The first cheque is R28 500, the runner-up is R14 000 and the third place finisher gets R7 500
