Cape Town born 17 year old apprentice Brandon May rode his first winner at Scottsville on Sunday when the 10 to 1 shot Cool Anne won the final race, an MR 74 Handicap for fillies and mares run over 1200m.
Kum Naidoo saddled the winner for longstanding owner Roy Moodley.
May, who was obviously ecstatic, saluted and hugged the filly as she hit the line.
He rode a well balanced race and had ridden 3 places from his 11 races to date.
He had his first ride on 3 November 2013.
The complete lack of constructive information in this industry has once again been highlighted by the fact that the SA Jockey Academy website makes no reference to the young man in its race riding apprentice information gallery.
There can be no excuse for that as he rode his first race some five months ago.
His personal Facebook page lists his occupation as ‘Apprentice Jockey Champion.’
Nothing wrong with a dash of healthy self confidence!
Well done Brandon.
