Grant van Niekerk and Aldo Domeyer fly out of Cape Town for Hong Kong on Saturday.
The new season starts on 1 September at Sha Tin.
The traditional pre-season carnival will be held on 24 August at Sha Tin and Penfold Park.
The Jockeys’ Sprint is a highlight of the Carnival and the race has been dominated by the ‘Mauritian Magician’ Karis Teetan in recent years.
Grant finished second last year and as Teetan will be in Japan to ride in the World Super Jockeys Series this year the publicity blurb suggests a new star could emerge in the form of one of the new young faces – the likes of Lyle Hewitson, Regan Bayliss or Alfred Chan, who are participating for the first time.
But have they even heard of the Cape’s own ‘Usain Bolt’, Aldo Domeyer?
Douglas Whyte has been engaged to be the starter.
