The edge in the fight for SA Champion trainer has been held by Paul Peter over incumbent Justin Snaith, but after the Turffontein trainer scratched Netta, Flying Bull, Naval Guard, Sprinkles and Great Affair from the big race, he now has one candidate (Astrix) versus Snaith’s nine-strong power hand.

Another trainer with a strong hand is Mike de Kock, whose quartet numbers Saturday’s Gr1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge star Al Muthana, Daily News 2000 winner Safe Passage, SA Derby champion Aragosta,  and the smart filly, Sparkling Jewel.

Dean Kannemeyer has the very talented 3yo Waterberry Lane, and 4yo’s Russian Rock and Silvano’s Timer in the mix. The latter runs in Saturday’s Gr2 Track & Ball Derby at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

No penalties will be incurred after the publication of the weights today.

The Handicapper will raise all weights proportionately to 60kg, should the top weight originally allotted be less than 60kg at final declaration

  • Final declarations close at 11h00 on Monday, 20 June.
  • The announcement of the final field and barrier draws will take place on Tuesday 21 June and will be broadcast on GallopTV and Racing 240.
  • All runners are required to participate in public gallops scheduled for Hollywoodbets Greyville on Thursday, 23 June.
