A Splendid Night…250 On the Board!

Time To Roll stamps her authority in milestone win

The Hollywood Syndicate’s first winner all the way back in March 2002 was Splendid Night and the nationally competitive purple and yellow flag flew proudly at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday evening as Jackson’s smart daughter Time To Roll capped a literally ‘splendid night’ at the races, and brought up a milestone 250th winner.

Time To Roll was a convincing winner of the seventh race, an MR 84 Handicap for fillies and mares, over 1600m.

Trainer Gareth van Zyl and Jockey Keagan de Melo received a R10 000 milestone incentive award for doing the honours.

Bred by the Boland Stud, TimeTo Roll is out of the Bel Esprit mare, Arcetri Dawn.

The Peter Muscutt -trained Purple Persuasion, also in the Hollywood Syndicate silks, rounded off a thrilling exacta for the purple team.

Amongst South African racing’s most instantly recognisable racing silks for over 19 years, the Hollywood Syndicate hit a, dare we say, purple patch in 2020, with 42 winners in one of the toughest years for horseracing in history.

They have upped the ante in 2021, and with their 200th winner being posted in February this year, their last 50 victories have come in double quick time.

Their aim is to invest back into horseracing, while taking an active role in thoroughbred racehorse ownership.

The syndicate is managed by Anthony Delpech, a popular former multiple Champion Jockey, who was on hand on Friday evening to lead the Boland Stud bred Time To Roll in at her third win from ten starts.

“The trainer and jockey incentive creates a lot of interest with our trainers all asking what number we are on. Everybody wants the money,” said Delpech, who has done a sterling job.

The celebration was dampened by a nasty incident during the race when Montfort went wrong and fell dislodging Winning Form jockey, Raymond Danielson, who had ridden the previous winner.
