In a press release dated 15 June 2015, the Hong Kong Jockey Club included Richard Fourie’s name on the list of riders to have been allocated a full season Club Jockey’s licence for the 2015/16 racing season.
The press release states that “The license is subject to a satisfactory medical examination and an undertaking to arrive in Hong Kong by no later than Sunday, 23 August 2015.” If Fourie complies, he will be touching gloves with Neil Callan, Joao Moreira, Brett Prebble , Zac Purton, Nash Rawiller, Karis Teetan and Douglas Whyte, who have also been granted full season licenses for the season.
Another familiar name to appear on the list is Chad Schofield, who has been granted a half season license for the period 13 July 2015 until 1 February 2016.
Twenty-one year old Schofield, currently contracted to the Ed Dunlop stable in Newmarket, has been catapulted into the limelight with victories aboard Shamus Award in the 2013 Gr1 W S Cox Plate, Lankan Rupee in the 2014 Gr1 Newmarket Handicap, Go Indy Go in the 2014 Gr1 Champagne Stakes and Sonntag in the 2014 Queensland Derby. He also has 4 Group 2 wins and 2 wins at Group 3 level to his credit and has been confirmed as the rider for David Hayes-trained Criterion in Wednesday’s Gr1 Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Other jockeys to be joining the HKJC roll for the 2015/16 season include Matthew Chadwick, Howard Y T Cheng, Vincent C Y Ho, Alex H W Lai, Eddy W M Lai, Derek K C Leung, Ben T H So and Keith M L Yeung who have been granted licences to ride on a freelance basis.
