Hitting The High Road

2013 Champions Season Charity Turf Challenge

Whilst this weekend was a quiet one for the competition, the KZN Breeders Race Day featuring the KZN Breeders Million Mile, took place at Clairwood Racecourse on Sunday, 30 June.

Entry into the race was exclusively for KZN Bred three and four year olds registered with Gold Circle’s Breeder’s Premium Scheme and this year was won by Gitinao, trained by Alec Laird and owned by Mr E & Mrs G Baisero. Jockey Stuart Randolph got the chestnut gelding home ahead of Corredor and Coy Boy. The 3 year old son of Mullins Bay was bred by Valjub cc and pocketed a cool R625 000, taking his career earnings to R1 031 750.

Last year, Gold Circle introduced an exciting new two year old race which will be run on July Day (race 12), a non-Black Type Stakes race worth R1million for graduates bought at the 2012 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale with further incentives if successful in the subsequent KZN Breeders Million Mile races in 2014 or 2015. To stand a chance of winning your share of the R1 million purse in 2014, you must find your dream horse at this year’s sale which will be held at Suncoast Casino on Thursday, 04 and Friday, 05 July. For more information about the KZN Breeders Club Triple Million Challenge please visit: www.kznbreeders.co.zo or for general information about the Sale, please visit: www.tba.co.za

The entire Leader Board can now be viewed on the Charity Turf Challenge home page, click on Leader Board and at the bottom of the page open PDF file.

This weekend it’s CRUNCH TIME in the competition, featuring the Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July (worth 44 points plus 5 bonus points to the winner), Gr.1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes (worth 44 points), Gr.2 Mercedes Benz Gold Vase (worth 29 points), Gr.3 Mango 2200 (worth 17 points) and the Listed Thukela Handicap (worth 2 points to the winner). With a total of 141 points (including the 5 bonus points) on offer for the above features, it’s a massive day in the competition which could see dramatic changes to the leader board.

The Vodacom Durban July race meeting will also see the Charity Turf Challenge entrant that scores the most points on this day ONLY win R20 000 in the “STAND ALONE” bonus prize that is on offer. So, it does not matter where you are positioned on the leader board, your 10 horses selected on each entry will be scored for this day ONLY, GOOD LUCK! Note: if there is more than one winner, the prize will be shared equally amongst winning entrants.

On Vodacom Durban July Day there will be 5 spot prize draws on Tellytrack. This is a computer generated, random draw from all entrants and not dependent on points earned. Each winner will receive a R500 telephone betting deposit kindly sponsored by TAB GOLD “The Intelligent Bet”.

As and when Charity Turf Challenge horses earn points, we will update the Racing South Africa website and email data-base: www.racingsouthafrica.co.za
