Wow Wendy – you’re on fire ! Absolutely spot on. Military Song raced in the interests of Mr Vic Branford.
im sure algernon percy was trained by reg passmore and ulterior motive by brian cherry?
Hi Hilton,
Thanks for commenting – hope you’re enjoying our history section.
You’re correct, Algernon Percy (Harry Hotspur – Soul) was bred by Noreen Stud and was trained by Reg Passmore for a while, but he moved around a fair bit during his racing career. He started out as a 2yo owned by Cyril Hurvitz and trained by Syd Laird, but then changed hands to Mr Whitehead and had his first start for Reg Passmore in May 1984. As a 3yo, Algernon Percy had 6 starts for the Passmore yard before transferring to David Payne in January 1985. At the end of his 4yo career, he was sold again to Messrs L Schaffer & S Gervis and transferred to the Roy Magner yard.
Ulterior Motive (Harry Hotspur – After Midnight) was bred by Maine Chance Farms and began his career as a 3yo in the care of Brian Cherry, racing in the interests of C Livanos. At the end of his 3yo year, he changed hands to JS Janson, MJ Oldfield & GAR Sturlese and moved to the David Goss string, where he remained for the bulk of his 4yo career. As a 5yo he briefly went back to Brian Cherry, before transferring to the Willie Pieters yard where he stayed until the end of his 6yo career. In his 7th year, it seems he changed hands again and had 2 starts for trainer GJ Lauderdale, racing in the interests of Mr WJ van der Merwe in Port Elizabeth and then called it a day.
Hope that helps!
