  1. Harold says:

Could be Hawkins winning the Gold Cup

    1. Robyn Louw says:

Not quite, although you’re in the right era, Harold. Care to try again?

  2. Bradford says:

Ilustrador with Felix. Rupert Ellis, Guineas, Daily News, GOLD cUP

  3. Bradford says:

    Maybe not !

    1. Robyn Louw says:

You’ve got the right jockey, Brad (although out of interest, in that famous 1990 Durban season, Illustrador won the Rupert Ellis Brown, the SA Guineas and the Rothmans July on the trot, finished 3rd in the Mainstay and then won the Gold Cup).

You’re thinking along the right lines, but focus a few years earlier….!

  4. Andrew Linder says:

It’s definitely a Millard/Scott horse – Devon Air or Tecla Bluff?

  5. Andrew Linder says:

I don’t remember if Tecla Bluff belonged to the Scotts – if not, then this is Devon Air.

  6. Kurt Walters says:

Could be Devon Air? That year she won Republic Day Hcp/Rothmans July/Gold Cup treble. And Andrew Tecla Bluff was owned by Sydney Press.

    1. Robyn Louw says:

Well done Kurt – spot on!

  7. Akesh Singh says:

Scott colours, Jockey Brand sponsored, has to be Devon Air completing the Jul/Gold Cup double in 1984.Tecla Bluff didn’t go for the Gold Cup – belonged to Mr Press.

    1. Robyn Louw says:

      Correct. Well done Akesh !

  8. Narie says:

    Castle Walk

    1. Robyn Louw says:

Sorry Narie, not quite. Castle Walk won the Gold Cup a few years later in 1988, when it was sponsored by Game. Incidentally Castle Walk wore the same silks as this week’s Guess Who subject and was ridden by the same jockey, so you’re on the right track! There is a tiny clue in the advertising boards at the finish…

  9. Narie says:

I was only 6 years when Devon Air won but I knew Devon Air had the same silks but for some reason I never could recall her winning the Gold Cup after winning the July. Thanks.

Alittle Info – Devon Air Offspring, Cream of the Crop produced Shes on Fire and

also Devon Air Offspring, Bushgirl produced August Rush and Miss October

I think Devon Air could have ended up in Zimbabwe

    1. Robyn Louw says:

Hi Narie, thanks for the info – if you click on the link (https://sportingpost.wpengine.com/history/guess-who-14/) and then scroll down to the bottom of the page, a red box should pop up with an option to choose the lazy way to find out the answer. We’ve compiled a short summary for you to enjoy.

Please do keep adding comments with your memories and additional info – much appreciated !
